The platform lifts the whole foot at an even height rather than raising the heel alone, so you get the height without any pitch forward onto the ball of the foot. That is why these can be worn for a full day. Two straps cross the foot and each one fastens on its own buckle, so the instep and the toe can be set to different widths. The insole is contoured to follow the foot, and the straps are soft-faced with flat edges.

We choose fabric by weight and density, not by season. A knit has to hold up in November, in February, on the first morning the frost stays all day. That is the only test we apply.
Winter clothing is hard to judge from a photograph. Weight, drape, how a collar sits against the neck. You only really know once it is on and you are standing outside in it.
